The Blank Page Process

I want to share a process with you that I do every time I begin to feel like I want a bit of a shake up in life!

I call it the blank page process.

It’s something I do for myself perhaps once or maybe twice a year.

If I start to feel like I’m getting bored, or uninspired, or things aren’t moving in a direction that excites me, I do this process. It’s fun, it’s creative, and it’s a light-hearted way to get in touch with the life that you really want

First things first – you need a blank piece of paper for this. The bigger the better!

Then, you want to break your life down into as many or as little areas as you like. Here’s some common areas that people might categorise their life into:

Family

Work

Relationships

Significant other

Hobbies

Health

Fitness

Money

Spirituality

Kids

Pick any area you want to start with, and write down what you want it to look like. The question you want to ask yourself is;

If I were to create my life right now, from a blank space, what would I want it to look like?

Here’s an example from mine:

Work:

I want to make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

I want to have a way that everyone that is interested in my work can access it for free or for as little money as possible (a book).

I want my book to reach as many people as possible

I want my book to make people happier

I want to work with groups and individuals to help them tailor my approach in a more specific and impactful way for themselves

You can then move onto the next section.

One thing that I feel is quite important is that you write your desires from a state of presence. This means that you don’t use the words; “more”, “better”, or “different”.

Using those terms means that you’re comparing what you want to the past, and it’s then less creative and more reactive. For example, if I just say that I want more money, then I’m coming from a place of lack, and due to the way our psychology works, this leaves us feeling less open, and more anxious and insecure.

The reason I love this process so much is that we go through various cycles and stages of growth, and so the way you want your life to look right now, might be very different to 6 years ago, or even 6 months ago.

We change, and we grow, and so this process helps us get in touch with where we are right now.

If you want to try this for yourself, I think you’ll find it quite fun and exciting to see what’s there underneath all the noise of your habitual thinking.
