Subtractive Thinking

What does a life coach do exactly?

It’s a question I’m asked quite a lot. Whether it’s from a prospective new client, a friend, or at an event I’m on, I’m often asked what it is that I do exactly.

And I never know what to say!

That is, until now…

I’ve always been surprisingly (to me anyway) confident that if someone spends some time with me and talks with me about something they’re stuck with in life, that I know I can help them.

I’ve had enough experiences in my work to know that what I know is helpful to people. But trying to articulate that and what I do has eluded me until it clicked the other day…

A burnt out therapist was in my office and they suddenly had a light-bulb moment where they truly saw for themselves that the only thing getting in their way was their thinking.

And they saw it so much they burst out laughing and couldn’t stop laughing for what felt like ages!

So what is it that I do?

I help you see through the thinking that’s getting in your way. I call it subtractive thinking…

What is subtractive thinking?

If you took away your negative beliefs, what do you think would be there underneath?

It turns out the answer is a lot!

Your wellbeing, confidence, resilience, happiness, peace and natural performance are all there. In other words, some things are just innate and waiting for us to tap into them. When you get a clear mind, you function at your highest, and this is what subtractive thinking does for you.

Subtractive thinking combines elements of psychology, mindfulness, neuroscience and performance coaching to help you be the best version of yourself and live your best life.

What is the difference with subtractive thinking and other approaches?

Almost every other approach is additive, in that it’s main premise is that you need to add something to your thinking in order to have a better life – More positive thinking, more mindfulness, more strategies to be confident, more tools and techniques to have resilience or wellbeing. All of this can be overwhelming, and whilst it might give you a temporarily fix, it misses the truth of how human beings work…

Substractive thinking asserts that you don’t need more thinking. You need less.

Less thinking leads to a clear mind and higher performance. The clearer your mind, the more you’ll be able to tap into what’s already there, such as;

  • Wellbeing
  • Natural high performance
  • Resilience
  • Happiness
  • Peace and contentment
  • Inspiration
  • Natural confidence
  • Presence and awareness
  • Flow state

If it’s that simple, why don’t we just think less and be at our best all the time?

Because 95% of our thinking, and our psychology is outside of our conscious awareness, we all have thinking that we can’t see or don’t know is there.

We call these blindspots, and these blindspots are the reason that we get stuck in life.

I help you uncover the thinking that’s getting in your way and help you see how simple it can be to be happy, and love your life.

When you uncover your unconscious thinking, it fades away as quickly as a dream fades when you wake up from it. No tools or techniques required! This approach leaves you feeling calm, present, happy and inspired.

What are the benefits of applying subtractive thinking in your life?

When it comes to both wellbeing and being effective, subtractive thinking says that the only thing getting in your way is your thinking. Not some fixed personality trait, but some habitual thinking that has been there so long you can’t even see it.

When you take away the thinking that says otherwise, you are a perfect human being in a world of pure possibility and potential. When you really live this approach, you function incredibly well in life and never let your thinking get in the way of your happiness, or your pursuits.

This summer I’m hosting a group coaching workshop, where we’ll be going through a few principles that will help you tap into your wellbeing and natural performance.

Part teaching, and part coaching and interaction, you can ask as many or as little questions as you like.

Parts of the workshop will be completely open for you to bring whatever you want to see more clearly or get unstuck with. Nothing will be off the agenda when it comes to your wellbeing and performance in life.

There’s a few things we will inevitably end up exploring in our time together during the two days;

  • How high performance works and how to make stuff happen
  • The key to our wellbeing and natural resilience
  • Being effective in work, relationships, and in life
  • Being your most authentic, confident, and highest self
  • Finding freedom of mind and clarity

If you want to apply this approach in your own life, I’m running a group workshop on the 5th and 6th July this year in sunny Dorset.

It’s only £97. Someone literally messaged me yesterday to ask if this was the full price or just the deposit. Yes it is the full price. I know it’s cheap, and I’ve priced it like this because I don’t think price should be a barrier to obtain these life-changing insights for yourself.
