Are you in balance?

I’ve always thought that being in balance in life is a lot light being a tightrope walker.

We each have to balance out the various priorities we have in life like family, work, health, money, friends, kids, hobbies, religious commitments etc.

We only have a finite amount of time, energy and attention, and it’s up to us to decide where to spend it.

I used to obsess about getting everything in balance like it would be a one-off solution. But I’ve come to learn that being in balance isn’t something you do once, it’s a continual fluid activity.

When you think of a tightrope walker, it’s easy to assume that they are in balance all the time. But if you look closely, they are out of balance just as much as they are in balance.

They are continually making lots of micro-adjustments. They just make them quicker than you or I probably would. That way, it looks like they’re in balance all the time and they stay on the rope.

Life is a lot like that. We might be in balance with juggling work, relationships, health, friends etc, and then something comes up, and we get out of balance.

If you make that mean that you’re doing something wrong, then it’s harder to get back into balance. As soon as you realise that you’re out of balance, and that’s ok, it’s easier to bring things back into balance.

I’ve loved being out of balance the last 3 months.

I’ve been fully engaged in writing my first book.

It’s been the most amazing, rewarding and incredible creative process I’ve ever engaged in. I love looking at a blank screen and allowing my fingers to type out the most helpful life changing insights I’ve come across ready to share with the world.

I’ve loved every moment of it.

Actually, that’s not true…

There was one moment when I caught myself not in the zone and tried to force myself to write.

It felt off, and I caught my higher self saying “hang on a minute, this is supposed to be a book on freedom, and you’re not exactly feeling free now are you!?”

I laughed to myself, went out for a walk, and came back feeling sufficiently free and inspired to carrying on writing, which then flowed with ease.

I’ve been in flow state so much with the writing, it’s been beautiful.

I’ve been balancing writing with a full client practice, going to the gym, and being an active Dad and Husband. Other than that, most other things have gone on hold.

I’ve not been doing much socially, and I haven’t sent you my weekly email since December.

I’ve really missed the group coaching, and putting on in-person events, and once I’ve finished writing, I’ll be back to it.

I’ve heard my ego at times saying, “you need to do more”.

But things are flowing perfectly, and I’ve very nearly finished my book. I can’t wait for you to read it!

Soon I’ll be conducting my market search, so watch this space to be involved.

And hopefully by June, you’ll be able to buy a copy on Amazon!
